So apparently the average canadian isn't smarter then your average american... I thought that maybe our voters wouldn't fall for Stephen Harper's month long slandering of the liberal party but apparently slander wins elections more then common sense.
As you can probably tell I am quite anti-conservative and the fact that they are running the country now quite repulses me. They won with platforms of bigotry and general stupidity saying things like "We plan on challenging gay marriages (again)" or "We will work on restricting abortions" (not exact quotes just idea's they've implied). Their stance on making the rich richer and the poor poorer upsets me a lot; I mean what kind of dumb idea is lowering the GST? Especially when their party implemented it in the first place! Think about it, to save any kind of money on a GST reduction you have to spend the money to save money, so the rich spend more and save more and the poor save barely anything because they can't spend nearly as much. I fear all social services are going to disappear (not that I actually use any of them but I don't mind contributing to them for a good cause.) I fear this because the conservatives want to privatize everything and with the obvious lack on taxes coming in mean a lot less funding for social services.
If people had issues with the Liberals (and I can understand that, not everyone is ok with public scandals or gay marriage or anything else the liberals had done last term) the least they could do would be to switch to voting NDP, Green party or any other party with any social responsibility. Of course so many people follow the herd and believe that they must vote for a party that "has a chance to win" that they don't vote intelligently; considering the absolute stupidity of most of what the conservative party stands for.
I was having trouble deciding on whether or not I should go to Australia but now I have to say its becoming a serious consideration again. I do not want to see Canada become the next United States and I sure don't want to be around when it does. Anyways I am done rambling now and I have to go to work. I'd like to give a cheer to anyone who didn't vote conservative (for any party but the conservatives) and a smack upside the head if you did. Ciao!

And, though I'm loath to admit it, Canada has always had to deal with being the US bitch because about 79% of our exports going there. We can't do much if our economy explodes. That's not saying it's how it should be, but there are times when, if the majority rules, we're going to have to figure other things out.
The only good thing is that we're not quite in a dictatorship. We're still allowed to say what we want, unlike most people in the US.
Good smack to bad people. We'll wait till they screw up royally and they get kicked out (b/c it's a minority they can't start up on social issues, as soon as they do they're gone) and the NDP get in instead.
Or Green. But that's pushing too naive on my behalf I think.
